First, the question everyone is asking in 2026. Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28, 2025, and the north coast took a hit. Ocean Coral Spring came through with minor damage and no major structural loss — restaurants and amenities began reopening on October 31, 2025, and the resort resumed full normal operations on November 7, 2025, including all restaurants, bars, the bowling alley, the Despacio Spa, the kids’ club, the beach and the pools. Its adults-only sister next door, Ocean Eden Bay, reopened on December 1, 2025. Both are open and taking bookings for 2026.

What you should temper is the “five-star” label. The facilities are five-star; the execution is not always. Recent guests keep circling the same handful of issues — a rocky beach, lukewarm buffet food, slow check-in, and a Privilege tier that does not deliver on its butler promise. Go for the value and the sheer amount of stuff for kids to do, and you will have a very good week. Go expecting Excellence-level polish and you will be disappointed.

Rooms and Suites

Ocean Coral Spring is an all-suite resort, and that single fact does more for families than any amenity on the list. There is no cramped entry-level double here — the base category is a Junior Suite with a separated sitting area, a sofa that sleeps a child, a terrace or balcony, and a bathroom with a tub as well as a shower. There are 341 standard Junior Suites, and they run around 45 square meters including terrace. Décor is bright and contemporary — white, teal and wood, with modern bathrooms — and because the building only dates from 2019 it has aged reasonably well, though 2025-2026 reviews do flag stained sofas, wall cracks and inconsistent in-room air conditioning in a minority of units. If you land a tired room, ask to move on day one rather than living with it.

The variations are worth understanding before you book, because they cost real money. Junior Suite Swim Up (30 units) puts you on the ground floor with direct access to a shared swimming channel from your terrace — the single most popular upgrade, and genuinely lovely with small children who want to be in water constantly. Junior Suite Rooftop (15 units) trades the swim-up for a private roof terrace with a hydromassage tub, which is a better fit for couples than for families. There are also 14 accessible suites. Ocean-view and ocean-front designations layer on top of these.

Above them sit the Master Suites — only 11 in the whole resort, split between standard, rooftop and swim-up configurations. These are the largest units on the property, with a full separate living room and a considerably better bathroom, and they are the right call for a multigenerational group that needs a gathering space.

Our Pick

For a family of four, a standard Junior Suite with ocean view is the sweet spot. The swim-up units are charming, but at Ocean Coral Spring they overlook a shared channel rather than a private pool, so you are paying a premium for a view of other guests’ terraces. Put the difference toward a longer stay. If you are a couple who ended up here rather than at Ocean Eden Bay — a reasonable choice if you want the bigger restaurant lineup — take a Junior Suite Rooftop instead and use the roof terrace as your quiet zone.

Food and Dining

Martha’s Market (buffet)

The main buffet runs 7:00-10:30am, 12:30-4:00pm and 6:30-10:00pm, with live show-cooking stations. Selection is genuinely wide — a solid Jamaican section alongside the international standards, a decent bakery, and staff who will work with you on gluten-free or allergy requirements if you talk to a chef rather than a server. The persistent problem is temperature. “Lukewarm” is the word that appears again and again in 2025 and 2026 reviews, along with complaints about tough oxtail and pork and slow drink service at the table. Time your visits: arrive within the first 45 minutes of a service and the food is noticeably better.

The à la carte restaurants

Six themed restaurants, and only one of them normally requires you to book, which is a real advantage over resorts that make you fight for reservations at 8am every morning.

• Red Snapper — Caribbean and seafood, beachfront, and the only à la carte open all day (breakfast 8:00-11:00am, lunch 12:30-5:00pm, dinner 7:00-10:00pm). Its beachside breakfast is a much calmer alternative to the buffet scrum.
• Sakura — Asian with teppanyaki tables, 5:00-10:00pm. The single most popular restaurant on the resort and the one guests rate highest; the teppanyaki tables fill fast, so turn up early.
• Route 66 — American barbecue, 5:00-10:00pm, and then the overnight snack outlet from 11:00pm to 6:00am. This is what makes the 24-hour claim real.
• Sugar Cane — Jamaican and Caribbean specialties, 6:00-10:00pm. The place to eat jerk, curry goat and escovitch properly rather than from a buffet tray.
• Thali — Indian, 6:00-10:00pm. Unusual for a Caribbean all-inclusive and genuinely useful for vegetarians.
• La Locanda — Italian, 6:00-10:00pm, advance booking required and subject to availability.

Add the open-air Jamaican Grill for jerk chicken and grilled plates at lunch (11:00am-4:00pm), Ocean Burger poolside, Mike’s Coffee for espresso and pastries, and an ice cream counter.

Bars and drinks

Eight-plus bars: the Lobby Bar, Sports Bar, two pool bars including a swim-up, a lazy-river bar, the bowling alley bar, the Disco Bar and the Privilege Lounge Bar. Domestic and international brands are included for every guest — genuinely international, not just Jamaican-label rum and vodka — but top-shelf premium spirits are reserved for the Privilege lounge and minibars. Wray & Nephew, Appleton, local Red Stripe and a competent cocktail list cover most people fine. The complaint that recurs is stock: guests report bars running out of mixers, bottled water or specific liquors partway through an evening. Not universal, but common enough to expect at least once a week.

Food quality verdict

Above average for the price bracket, below the five-star billing. The breadth is the strength — seven distinct cuisines with almost no reservation friction is more than Royalton Blue Waters or most Riu properties give you. The weakness is consistency: temperature at the buffet, service pace at dinner, and the air conditioning problem in several indoor à la carte venues that guests have raised repeatedly through late 2025 and into 2026. Eat at Sakura, Sugar Cane and Red Snapper, use Martha’s Market for breakfast only, and you will eat well.

Beach and Pools

The beach

This is where you need to be realistic. Coral Spring Bay is calm, shallow and protected, which makes it safe for small children — but the seabed is rocky and littered with coral rubble, and seaweed washes in seasonally. Almost every honest review of this resort mentions water shoes, and almost every one recommends bringing them. It is not a long walk-for-miles sugar-sand beach like Negril’s Seven Mile, and it is noticeably less good than the beach at Excellence Oyster Bay a few minutes down the coast. The sand strip itself is fine — well-groomed, with plenty of loungers and welcome shade — and the breeze here is consistently good. But if a perfect swimming beach is your top priority, this is not your resort.

Pools

The pool complex is the real draw, and it is where the resort earns its family reputation. Two large outdoor pools anchor the property, one with a swim-up bar, connected to a lazy river with tubes that winds through the grounds — kids will spend hours in it. A separate children’s splash park with slides, buckets and fountains sits alongside a shallow family pool. There is also an indoor pool inside the Despacio Spa. Loungers are plentiful enough that the towel-reservation wars are milder than at comparable Jamaican resorts, though the swim-up bar seats still go early.

Activities and Entertainment

Daytime

Two floodlit tennis courts, a multi-sport court for basketball, volleyball and pickleball, a games room, and — the differentiator — a bowling alley that is included in the all-inclusive rate. Very few Caribbean resorts have one, and on a rainy afternoon or during a mid-day heat spike it is worth its weight. Non-motorized water sports (kayaks, paddleboards, snorkel gear) are included; motorized sports, jet skis and parasailing are run by third-party operators for a fee, as is the on-site dive center. Add the standard daytime animation program: pool games, aqua aerobics, dance classes, beach volleyball.

Evening

Nightly shows in a proper indoor theatre — musicals, dance revues, live music — followed by the Disco Bar for anyone still standing. The Sports Bar shows North American games and is the reliable low-key option. Entertainment here is competent rather than dazzling; it is aimed squarely at families, and the shows are family-timed, generally kicking off around 9:00pm.

Kids’ Club

The Daisy Club covers ages 4-12 with supervised activities, arts and crafts, a playground, water park access and a mini-disco. Older kids get a separate teens’ space with consoles, air hockey and foosball. Between the club, the lazy river, the splash park and the bowling alley, this is one of the strongest family propositions in Jamaica — comfortably better resourced than most of its Montego Bay competition. Spa and Wellness

The Despacio Spa Centre is H10’s in-house spa brand and it is a good one: massage cabins, facials, body wraps, a beauty salon, and a hydrotherapy circuit with sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and cold plunge. The gym is air-conditioned, open 24 hours and reasonably equipped with cardio machines, weight stations and free weights. Be clear on the money, though — the gym is included, but spa treatments and the hydrotherapy circuit are extra, and H10’s own inclusions wording explicitly excludes the Despacio Spa from the all-inclusive program. Budget $120-180 for a couples’ massage.

Christmas and New Year bookings typically carry a mandatory gala dinner supplement and a minimum-stay requirement on top of the nightly rate. The Privilege upgrade generally runs $60-110 per night on top for two — and based on 2025-2026 guest feedback about missing butlers, I would not pay it.

Best time to book

September and early October are the cheapest weeks of the year here and also the peak of Atlantic hurricane season; if you book then, buy insurance that covers named storms. The best value-to-weather trade is late April through early June, when rates fall back toward $320-400 but the weather is still reliably good. For February and March travel, book six to eight months out — Trelawny’s inventory is thin and this resort fills.

Compare the H10 direct rate against Booking.com and Expedia, then check the North American vacation packagers — WestJet Vacations, Air Canada Vacations and the US charter operators frequently beat both on a flight-plus-resort basis into Montego Bay, and often bundle the transfer that is otherwise an extra. Booking direct with H10 sometimes includes a free transfer on stays of three nights or more, which is worth $80-120 for a family. Whichever channel you use, confirm in writing whether transfers are included before you land at MBJ.

Compared to Nearby Resorts

Excellence Oyster Bay is the adults-only luxury option a few minutes down the same coast, and it is a straightforwardly better resort — better beach, better food, far better service — at roughly double the price. If your trip is child-free and your budget stretches to $600+ a night, go there instead. If you have kids, Excellence will not take them.

Royalton Blue Waters is Ocean Coral Spring’s closest direct competitor: another large family all-inclusive in Trelawny at a similar price point, with a splash pad, a Diamond Club tier and Royalton’s usual restaurant lineup. Royalton’s rooms and beds are more comfortable and its Diamond Club upgrade delivers more reliably than Ocean’s Privilege. Ocean Coral Spring wins on sheer facility count — the lazy river, the bowling alley and the theatre have no Royalton equivalent — and on restaurant variety.

Ocean Eden Bay, the adults-only sister sharing the same campus, is the one to know about if you are traveling as a couple. Note the asymmetry carefully: Eden Bay guests get full complimentary access to Ocean Coral Spring’s restaurants, bars and facilities, but Coral Spring guests do not get free access the other way — crossover is available only at a surcharge arranged on site. The beach is rocky and needs water shoes, the buffet runs lukewarm, several à la carte restaurants have had air conditioning problems well into 2026, check-in queues are long, bars run out of things, and the Privilege tier does not deliver the butler service it advertises. None of that is disqualifying — but it is the difference between a resort that calls itself five-star and one that behaves like it.

Book it if you have children, you want maximum activity per dollar, and you are willing to pack water shoes and eat strategically.
