Ikos Kissamos
By All-Inclusive Guide Editorial Team
Research & Editorial Desk · October 2026 · How we review
Provisional verdict: Ikos Kissamos brings the full Ikos package to western Crete. That means seven restaurants, Dine Out, a free car for a day, a spa that is free for over-16s and a serious kids programme, all beside 600 metres of beach. It costs more than anything else we cover on Crete. It also sits about 50 minutes from Chania airport and is still in its first season. Book it if you want Ikos food and service with Balos and Falassarna on the doorstep. If you want the shortest transfer or the lowest Ikos price, look elsewhere.

Ikos Kissamos in brief: what we can say after one season
Ikos Kissamos is the eighth Ikos resort and the first on Crete. It opened at the end of April 2026 on Kissamos Bay, in the far north-west of the island. The resort is about 2 km from the town of Kissamos and roughly 45 minutes’ drive west of Chania. Sani/Ikos Group launched it with 414 rooms and suites, 600 metres of beachfront and, according to the official resort page, more than 53 acres of landscaped gardens.
Our rating is provisional: 8.5 / 10. We have not stayed. This review uses the official Ikos pages (rooms, restaurants, kids, spa, activities, offers), the group’s own announcements, Greek trade press covering the opening, and one detailed account from a paying guest in its second week. We score it just below the established Ikos resorts. The concept is the same and the early feedback is strong, but one partial season isn’t enough to judge whether service holds up through a busy August. We will revise the score once there is a second season of guest feedback.
Three questions decide whether this resort suits you:
- Is western Crete the part of Greece you want? If Balos, Falassarna and Chania’s old harbour are on your list, this is the best-placed luxury all-inclusive for them. If you just want a pool and the shortest possible transfer, Ikos’s Corfu and Kos resorts are 15 to 20 minutes from their airports.
- Will you use what the higher rate pays for? The premium covers à la carte dining, Dine Out, the car day and the adults’ spa. Families who stay on site and eat mostly at the buffet get less of that value.
- Can you live with a first-year resort? Guests have praised the gardens and the food. They also mention staff still finding their feet in the opening weeks.
Open, and when it closes
The resort is trading. The group’s own press release (May 2026) and Greek trade coverage report that guests have been arriving since late April 2026. Its TripAdvisor listing had several hundred reviews by early October, averaging about 4.9 out of 5. That is a strong start, but it reflects a single, partly opening-month season.
The season runs from roughly late April to late October. The first guests arrived around 30 April 2026, and UK operators such as Kuoni describe May to October as the time to go. The official Ikos early-booking page shows Kissamos offer windows from 29 April to 30 October 2027. If you are reading this in October 2026, the first season is almost over. The next realistic arrival dates are from late April 2027.
What the all-inclusive covers here, and what costs extra
Ikos calls its board basis Unconditional Luxury. You may also see older marketing that calls it the Ikos “Infinite Lifestyle”. At Kissamos, the official pages list the following:
| Included in the rate | Costs extra |
|---|---|
| Six à la carte restaurants plus The Market buffet | Heroes Crèche for 6 months to 4 years: €42 per session (€32 for the shorter 13:00–15:00 slot) |
| 24-hour room service; minibar with branded spirits, restocked daily | Heroes Supper Club for ages 4 to 12: €30 per child per 3-hour evening |
| More than 100 local and international wine labels | Football Academy: €20–25 per session |
| Dine Out at selected local tavernas and restaurants | Spa treatments, hair and nails salon |
| Local Drive Adventure: a MINI Countryman for one day of your stay | Babysitting |
| Culture Pass for archaeological sites and museums | Private boat tours to Balos and Gramvousa, excursions, yacht charter |
| Spa thermal suite (steam, sauna, salt wall, ice room) for over-16s | Airport transfers, unless you book direct for 5+ nights (see below) |
| Kids’ clubs for ages 4 to 12 and teens 12+ | |
| Padel, four tennis courts, 5-a-side pitch, volleyball, gym and classes | |
| Canoes, paddleboards and pedalos (30 minutes, once per day) and bikes |
Two booking perks matter here. If you book direct for five nights or more, Ikos’s free-transfer offer covers the Chania airport run (the group-wide offer is capped at €350). The first child up to age 11 stays free on direct bookings, according to Ikos’s “First Child Free” offer. Neither perk is guaranteed through a third party, so compare the full package, not just the nightly rate.
Seven places to eat, and who designed them
Food is where Ikos spends its money, and Kissamos has its own line-up rather than a copy of another resort’s:
| Restaurant | Cuisine | Named chef on the official page |
|---|---|---|
| Kriti | Cretan | Ettore Botrini (Michelin-starred) |
| Fresco | Italian | Ettore Botrini |
| La Plage | French, Côte d’Azur style | Pascal Barbot (Michelin-starred) |
| Anaya | Thai, Chinese and Indian | Chef Thiou |
| Azul | Peruvian | None named |
| Beach Club | Mediterranean, by the sand | None named |
| The Market | International buffet with cook-to-order stations | None named |
Pastries are credited to Antonio Bachour. Drinks come from a lobby bar, a pool bar and a beach bar that hosts the White Party. There is also a Deluxe Pool Bar for Deluxe Collection guests, plus food trucks for ice cream and snacks in the gardens.
Kriti is the restaurant that makes this resort different. Fresco (Italian) and Anaya (Asian) are familiar Ikos concepts. A Cretan restaurant from a Michelin-starred chef, with Dine Out to village tavernas on top, gives you more local food than most resorts on the island. The paying guest who reviewed a May 2026 week singled out La Plage as the highlight of their week and rated Anaya highly. That reviewer also found WhatsApp reservation requests slow to confirm in the first weeks. Ikos’s Deluxe Collection page lists “unlimited restaurant reservations in advance” as a Deluxe benefit, so standard-room guests should expect limits on advance booking. Book La Plage and Anaya early in your stay.
Choosing a room: the price ladder
The official accommodation page lists every room type with its size, maximum occupancy and a “from” nightly price. The currency symbol isn’t printed in the page source. Ikos’s July 2025 launch announcement quoted the Superior Double “from 429 euro per night” all-inclusive, so read these figures as euros per room at the cheapest dates.
| Room | Size | Max guests | Official “from” per night |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double Room (garden view) | 40 m² | 2 | 427 |
| Superior Double Room (garden or pool view) | 40 m² | 3 | 459 |
| Superior Double Room Private Garden | 40 m² | 3 | 491 |
| Junior Suite (pool or sea view) | 46 m² | 3 | 571 |
| Junior Suite Private Garden | 46 m² | 4 | 599 |
| One Bedroom Suite Private Garden | 78 m² | 4 | 671 |
| Family Room / Family Room Private Garden (two connected superior doubles) | 80 m² | 5 | 983 |
| Deluxe Junior Suite (side sea view or private garden) | 60 m² | 4 | 720 |
| Deluxe One Bedroom Suite | 90 m² | 4 | 806 |
| Deluxe One Bedroom Suite Private Garden | 90 m² | 5 | 896 |
| Deluxe One Bedroom Suite Private Pool | 90 m² | 5 | 974 |
| Deluxe Two Bedroom Suite Private Garden | 128 m² | 6 | 1,309 |
| Deluxe Two Bedroom Suite Private Pool | 128 m² | 6 | 1,505 |
| Deluxe Three Bedroom Suite Private Pool | 182 m² | 7 | 2,133 |
How to read the table:
- Couples: the Double Room is the only room for just two people, and both it and the Superior are 40 m². The Superior Private Garden adds a garden for €64 a night over the Double at lead-in prices. The Junior Suite adds 6 m² and a pool or sea view.
- Family of four: the Junior Suite Private Garden (from 599) is the cheapest room that officially takes four. A family of five jumps to the Family Room (from 983), which is two connected doubles. At that price, compare the Deluxe One Bedroom Suite Private Garden (from 896, five guests), which also includes the Deluxe benefits.
- Deluxe Collection: this tier adds a separate pool and beach area, iced Taittinger, a Deluxe concierge, a dinner by the sea and two 25-minute massages per suite per stay. Ikos’s group Deluxe page also lists two MINI days instead of one and VIP transfers. Ikos says Seasons, its Deluxe-only restaurant elsewhere, is available at Aria, Andalusia and Porto Petro. Kissamos doesn’t have it, so don’t pay extra expecting it.
The resort is split into areas the press materials call the Main Village, River Village and Dunes Village, plus the Deluxe Collection. If you are a light sleeper or have small children, ask which area your room is in and how far it is from the beach and The Market. On 53 acres, distances add up.
Kissamos as a base: the transfer, Balos, Falassarna
Getting there. Chania (CHQ) is the airport you want. Tour operators put the transfer at about 50 minutes for 50–55 km, and Kuoni quotes roughly 2.5 hours from Heraklion. Some flight deals use Heraklion, which costs you most of a day each way. Ikos’s free transfer for direct bookings of 5+ nights runs from Chania.
The day trips are the reason to stay at this end of Crete:
| Trip | How | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Balos Lagoon | Car via an unpaved track of about 7–8 km from Kaliviani, or a boat from Kissamos port | The track takes 25–45 minutes and many rental agreements exclude it. Car-park fees are about €3 per car plus €1 per person, and the car park often fills by mid-morning in July and August. Expect a 20–30 minute walk down and a steeper walk back up. Ask Ikos whether the MINI’s terms allow unpaved roads before trying it. |
| Gramvousa + Balos by boat | Cruises from Kissamos port, or Ikos’s private boat tours at extra cost | Public cruises usually stop at Imeri Gramvousa’s Venetian fort, then Balos. This avoids the dirt road altogether. |
| Falassarna | About 15–17 km west, roughly 20 minutes by car | A long run of west-facing sandy beaches, so it’s good at sunset. There are beach cafés in season and the ruins of an ancient harbour. This is the obvious MINI-day destination. |
| Chania old town | About 45 minutes east | The Venetian harbour and tavernas. Plan an evening here with dinner. |
| Culture Pass sites | Car or taxi | Ikos lists the Monastery of Gonia and the Agia Sophia Cave in Topolia Gorge. |
One MINI day doesn’t cover all of western Crete. Use it for Falassarna or Chania, take a boat to Balos, and rent a car for a second day if you also want Elafonisi or the Samaria Gorge.
Families or couples?
Families get the most organised offer. Ikos says its childcare follows UK Ofsted ratio guidelines and publishes the ratios: 1:3 for babies of 6–23 months, 1:10 for ages 4–7 and 1:15 for ages 8–12. The Heroes Kids Club (4–12) and Just4Teens (12+) are free. Sessions run 10:30–13:00, 13:00–15:00 and 15:30–18:00, and the teens club skips the midday slot. Under-4s need the paid crèche, and evenings without the children mean the paid Supper Club. The amenity list includes free buggy rental, baby monitors and bath sets on request, an adventure playground and children’s menus. With eight pools, including kids’ pools and a splash zone, it suits families well.
Couples should think about timing. The spa is adults-only, with free thermal-suite access for over-16s from 08:00 to 20:00. The car day and Dine Out work especially well for two. In school holidays, though, this is a large family resort. Couples who want quiet should aim for May, June, September or October, or pay for the Deluxe Collection’s separate pool and beach. Crete’s adults-only alternative on our site is a different kind of resort (see the comparison below).
How it compares with the other Ikos resorts
| Ikos Kissamos (Crete) | Ikos Aria (Kos) | Ikos Dassia / Odisia (Corfu) | Ikos Olivia / Oceania (Halkidiki) | Ikos Porto Petro / Andalusia (Spain) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Transfer | About 50 min (Chania) | 15–20 min | About 20 min | 35–55 min (Thessaloniki) | About 50 min |
| Status | First season, 2026 | Established | Established | Long-running (the group’s first Ikos resorts) | Established |
| Distinctive here | Cretan restaurant (Kriti), Balos and Falassarna nearby, 53-acre gardens | Island beach, Seasons for Deluxe guests | Corfu Town culture | Mainland value, longest track record | Spain; Seasons for Deluxe guests |
Choose Kissamos over the other Greek Ikos resorts if you want an island with more to explore than Kos, and food that is noticeably Cretan. Choose Aria or the Corfu pair if the transfer matters, especially with toddlers. Choose Halkidiki if you want the Ikos concept at the group’s established mainland resorts. The rest of our Ikos reviews were written about seasoned resorts. This one is a newcomer, and the rating reflects that.
How it compares with other Crete all-inclusives we cover
- Grecotel LUXME Creta Palace, near Rethymno, is the closest family-luxury rival and is also usually reached from Chania. It has no equivalent of Ikos’s Michelin-chef line-up, Dine Out or car day, but it is usually cheaper and sits close to Rethymno town.
- Grecotel LUXME White Palace is the Rethymno-area alternative for couples and families who want the Grecotel product between the two airports.
- Stella Island Luxury Resort & Spa is adults-only (16+) with lagoon “overwater” bungalows, 25–35 minutes from Heraklion. It’s the better pick for a child-free couples’ trip. Ikos Kissamos is the better pick for food and for exploring western Crete.
- Mitsis Rinela Beach is about 15 minutes from Heraklion and a fraction of the price. It’s the budget-family answer, but it’s in a different category of hotel.
On published lead-in rates, Ikos Kissamos is the most expensive all-inclusive we cover on Crete. Whether it’s worth it depends on how many of the included extras you will actually use.
Pricing and how to get a real quote
The official room table above gives lead-in prices only. July and August, sea views and Deluxe tiers all push the nightly rate well past them. For a fair comparison:
- Price the same dates, room type and occupancy on the official Ikos Kissamos site and on Booking.com.
- Add the transfer to any third-party rate. Direct bookings of 5+ nights include it, and the Chania run otherwise costs extra.
- Check the child policy. The first-child-free offer applies to direct bookings.
- Watch the early-booking windows. Ikos’s official offer page lists 5% off all Kissamos room types for 2027 stays, with offer deadlines of 30 November 2026 or 31 January 2027 depending on the dates. UK package operators also sell Kissamos with flights, which can beat booking separately from UK airports.
We earn a commission if you book through our Booking.com link. It doesn’t change the price you pay, and it doesn’t change this review.
Check Ikos Kissamos rates on Booking.com, then compare the same stay on the official Ikos site with transfers and the child policy included.
What we could not verify yet
- How the beach and sea behave through a full summer. The official pages and the guest account describe a sandy beach with plenty of sunbeds, but one season isn’t a track record.
- The exact number of à la carte reservations standard-room guests can make in advance.
- Whether the MINI Countryman may be driven on the Balos track. Ask the resort before you set off.
- Late-season service. Most detailed accounts so far come from the opening weeks.
- Live prices. We have not quoted live rates. The figures above are official lead-in prices only.
Bottom line
Book Ikos Kissamos if you want the Ikos formula, with the food, the included extras and the kids’ clubs, in Crete’s most beautiful corner, and you will actually go out to Balos, Falassarna and Chania. It’s the most complete luxury all-inclusive in western Crete. Skip it, or wait a season, if a short transfer, the lowest Ikos price or a proven late-summer service record matters more to you. Returning Ikos guests will find the system familiar. First-time Ikos guests on Crete should still compare it with the cheaper Grecotel options before paying the premium.
