Excellence Playa Mujeres sits on a pristine stretch of beach north of Cancún, away from the Hotel Zone crowds. This adults-only, all-inclusive resort has earned a reputation as one of Mexico’s finest — and after our visit, we understand why.
The property features 450 suites, nine restaurants, seven bars, two pools (including a stunning rooftop infinity pool), a full-service spa, and a golf course next door. Everything is included, from premium cocktails to room service to nightly entertainment.
Rooms & Suites
Every room at Excellence Playa Mujeres is a suite, starting at 560 square feet. The entry-level Junior Suites feature a whirlpool tub on the balcony, a king bed, and a well-stocked minibar refreshed daily.
The real stars are the swim-up suites on the ground floor, offering direct pool access from your terrace, and the Excellence Club suites on the upper floors, which add butler service, a private lounge, and premium spirits.
Our pick: The Excellence Club Rooftop Terrace Suite. Yes, it’s a splurge, but the private rooftop plunge pool with ocean views is absolutely worth it for a honeymoon or anniversary trip.
Food & Drink
This is where Excellence truly excels. Nine restaurants cover Mexican, French, Italian, Asian, Mediterranean, seafood, and Brazilian cuisines. Reservations are required for specialty restaurants but easy to get — we never had trouble booking same-day.

The bars serve premium brands (Grey Goose, Hendrick’s, Don Julio), and the bartenders can make genuinely good cocktails — not the watered-down versions you get at budget properties.
Beach & Pools
The beach at Playa Mujeres is one of the best in the Cancún area — fine white sand, calm turquoise water, and far less crowded than the Hotel Zone. Beach service is excellent with comfortable loungers and quick drink delivery.
The main pool is large and lively, with a swim-up bar and DJ in the afternoons. The rooftop pool is quieter and more sophisticated — it’s adults-only within an adults-only resort, offering a more serene vibe with stunning panoramic views.
The Verdict
Excellence Playa Mujeres delivers on its name. This is a polished, well-run resort where the details matter — from the quality of the food to the thread count of the sheets. It’s not the cheapest all-inclusive in Mexico, but it’s among the best value in the luxury tier.
